3 Backyard Fun Essentials
This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of OFF!®. The opinions and text are all mine.
This summer, it’s all about the backyard patio. We’ve recently put a lot of work into our patio to make sure that it’s a place our family loves and enjoys.
We don’t want to just use it for parties or for grilling, though, we really want to make sure that we’re using this space as an extension of our home – a place where we can have outdoor fun, like water sprinklers or a game of badminton, but also where we can sit quietly and read or play a board game.
There’s a difference between just stepping outside and really living outside, and I want to make sure that our patio lets us live outside.
For me to really relax and enjoy myself outside there are three things I my family needs:
Both of my kids are fair-skinned, so it doesn’t take much time at all for them to get a nice sunburn.
There is nothing worse than a sunburn to ruin backyard fun, so I make sure they both are covered head to toe in sunscreen all summer.
Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! The summers here in Oklahoma are brutal, so I always have water nearby for my boys when we’re outside.
It’s so easy to get dehydrated when they are running, jumping, and playing in the heat, so I remind them take a drink often. My goal is that this will become a habit for them as they grow older.
OFF!® FamilyCare Insect Repellent I (Smooth & Dry)
OFF!® FamilyCare Insect Repellent I (Smooth & Dry) has become as much a part of my family’s outdoor routine as sunscreen and a water bottle. That’s because skin-applied personal repellants are the first line of defense against the mosquitos that may carry the Zika virus. Keeping away the bugs is one way I can make sure that we’re all comfortable outside and can spend more time enjoying the summer and less time scratching and worrying. Some people think you only need to apply personal insect repellent in the evening, but you should apply it during the day as well. And, I learned that it is important to always apply repellent according to the package instructions.
Many insects, including adult female mosquitoes, are attracted to people by the odor of the carbon dioxide (CO2) gas that they exhale (please don’t tell my sons that I just said there’s a connection between mosquitos and gas, I’ll never hear the end of the gas jokes). The active ingredients in OFF!® FamilyCare affect the scent receptors in biting insects, making it difficult for them to recognize humans as a source of food.
Other ways you can keep bugs at bay include dressing in lightweight, light colored clothes that cover your body and making sure to dump any standing water, like half-filled cups or abandoned frisbees filled with rain water, at least twice a week. Why, you may ask? Because, mosquitos breed in standing water.
I’m looking forward to really taking full advantage of living outside this summer and OFF® FamilyCare Insect Repellent I (Smooth & Dry) is one way that I’m going to make sure I get the most out of my outdoor space!
