Advice For The First Day Of School

Schoolchild writting on blackboard.

Recently, I was thinking about what advice I wanted to impart on my daughter as her first day of school approaches. I thought about advice my mother gave me, to be myself, to try my best, to make lots of friends. All things I still keep as a part of my life to this day.

So what would I want my daughter to keep in mind when she heads to class that first day?

I put the question out via social media and got some fantastic responses.

Here are a few pieces of advice for kids heading to their first day of school:

“It’s okay to ask questions.” Kay.

“Be brave everyday.” Rhonda-Marie.

“Say ‘hi’ to all your classmates — they could be your new BFF!” Chrissy.

“Treat others how you wish to be treated.” Ash.

“Find something good to read!” Donna, an elementary school librarian.

“Don’t worry about what other people think.” Adam.

“Be kind.” Kerri.

Overall, I want my daughter to enjoy her school experience in a way that has her excited to learn and grow. On her first day, just a few weeks away, I will be sure she knows that no matter what happens, I am always here to support her. I think the confidence that can come with knowing your family supports you is so important — a great tool for back to school!

What advice would you/did you give your kids on their first day of school?
