No-Brainer Recipe: Homemade Mac & Cheese

Guest post by: from Making Food Eating Food, *photos ©chanelle richardson* So, that box of bright orange powdered-cheese-type-pasta-stuff works in a pinch…but it kinda freaks me out. I mean, is anything found in nature that is actually that colour? Anyway, I came up with a recipe for macaroni and cheese that is just as fast, even more delicious, and (to me) more gratifying. Quick Homemade Mac & Cheese makes enough to feed mom and two hungry smallish kiddos. adjust accordingly.

No-brainer Recipe: Chocolate Chip Cookie Bars

CC Cookie 1

Chocolate chip cookie bars are one of my favorite desserts to make on a lazy weekend or rainy day.  Now with the help of my KitchenAid Stand Mixer, I will probably be making these a lot more often. This recipe is basically the traditional Nestle Toll House Chocolate Chip Cookie recipe, but tweaked a bit and placed into a pan.  I have found that the bars take less time, are less messy and taste just as yummy!

No-brainer Recipe: Easy Taco Soup

Taco Soup 2

During the winter months, I crave soups, chilis and stews.  This past Christmas, my in-laws made taco soup for dinner instead of the traditional holiday menu and I have been craving it again this week.  I finally made a pot on the stovetop last night and it was SO yummy and, of course, easy. (I only do easy, people)

Holiday Dessert: Cathedral Windows

Cathedral Windows

Are you looking to add a little color to your cookie tray this year? If you aren’t afraid of some seriously sweet treats, I recommend these tasty Cathedral Windows. They are more candy than cookie, truth be told. A little bit messy, certainly, but they are festive and a delicious throwback to old fashioned treats. Cathedral Windows Makes about two dozen 1/4 cup butter 2 cups semisweet chocolate chips 2 eggs, beaten (or any egg beater type product, as long as it is pasturized) 1

No-Brainer Recipe: Easy Chili and Sweet Cornbread

Simple Chili and Cornbread

When the weather cools down, I crave warm, hearty meals.  Chili is a meal that my entire family can agree on, so we have it quite often.  This chili recipe requires very little preparation and is SO easy to make.  The sweet cornbread is simple to prepare as well and compliments the chili nicely. This recipe is also perfect for having family and friends over to watch a football game.  For large crowds, just simply double the recipe.

No-brainer Recipe: San Remo Seafood Dip

The Olive Garden used to have the most amazing seafood dip, San Remo Dip, on their menu. Like any ‘good’ chain, they got rid of it. We were appalled, then we went to the interwebs and found our own recipe. All in all, a perfectly suitable substitute. A little on the thin side, so next time I would simmer for a longer amount of time till it’s nice and thick. Yum! Serve with your favorite bread sticks, sliced baguette or crackers. Pantry Recipes: Homemade Maple Syrup

At my place there are a lot of nights where breakfast becomes dinner. Between having breakfast for breakfast, and breakfast for dinner, we tend to go through a lot of maple syrup. I wanted to try out a homemade syrup recipe, just a basic Maple to start. It turned out great and it was very simple to make. I’m willing to bet that some of you have the majority of the ingredients in your pantry like I did. No candy thermometers necessary, just stir continuously
