Control Your Kid’s Screen Time with OurPact
Most of us try to use the summer to keep our kids active and involved with friends and family. But, there’s no denying that summer also means more screen time.
When I was a kid we didn’t use the word “screen time,” but if we had, it would have just meant some extra viewings of reruns on TV. It would have been hard to abuse screen time because really, how many times can you watch the same episode of the Brady Bunch?
But today, screen time means phones and tablets and the potential for abuse, both in terms of what the kids are watching, and for how long. That’s why I’m thankful for OurPact. OurPact is one of the leading parental control apps for iPhones, iPads, and iPods, and now, with the new release, OurPact is available for Android devices as well.
OurPact makes it easy for you to set limits on how much time your children are spending on their mobile devices. You can create schedules or you can simply block all Internet and app use at a moment’s notice. The apps actually seem to disappear from the device so that kids can’t access them.
I really like this promotional video the company released, it perfectly sums up my feelings about screen time vs. family time.
Now that I have a teenager I’m most excited about the scheduling feature. I’m hoping that the schedules will help my teen see how easy and helpful it is to keep track of the whens and wheres of his responsibilities. I may also use OurPact to keep my kids from using their devices at bedtime or early in the morning. I have one kid with some sleep issues and being able to control late-night screen time is essential to a good night’s sleep.
As a working parent, I also like that I can control and end screen time remotely. I’ve had a few babysitters who have relied a little too heavily on screen time as a sub-babysitter and a few that got talked in to “one more game,” a few too many times.
When school starts again in the Fall I plan to use OurPact to help the kids schedule homework, chores, and screen time. Everyone can use some help achieving the perfect balance of responsibility and relaxation time.
www.ourpact.com was easy to set up, and what’s even better, it’s free for parents to use. There’s really no reason not to give it a try. Don’t forget, sharing is caring, if there’s someone you think that could benefit from OurPact, let their family know about this fabulous new resource.
This is a sponsored post, but all opinions and wishes that my son would turn off his device at night are my own.
