Del Monte’s Fruit and Veggie Fushions
Now that the back to school season is upon us and we’re all getting back into the rhythm of school mornings and homework and making lunches, I’m bound and determined not to fall into a lunch slump. (It happens to all of us, right?) Sometimes my kids buy their lunches at school, which is as simple as it comes, but to be honest, I’d rather make their lunches — with their help! — so that I always know they’re getting everything they need.
I’ve seen it happen time and time again. My youngest might decide he doesn’t like what’s on the lunch menu or he’ll pick around something I’ve made him, and when he gets home from school, he’s completely ravenous. I know for a fact that when my kids — and ALL kids — are hungry or don’t eat a complete lunch at school, everything suffers. Their attitude isn’t great, they can’t learn as well, and those super moments that we want to hear about when we pick them up at the end of the day just can’t happen.
We all want our kids to come home with a super moment to tell us about. They got an A on a test, they made a new friend at recess, or they finished an art project. When kids are eating well and getting everything they need, these super moments come much more easily than when they are hungry, grouchy, and just not feeling like themselves.
This year, I want to make lunches side-by-side with my youngest son, so that we can talk about what’s going in his lunch bag, why it’s important to eat well, and so that he’s always a part of the conversation. Another new idea I’ve got up my sleeve this school year is the brand new Fruit & Veggie Fusions from Del Monte. My son LOVES fruit cups and while he munches on one of the new flavors — Cherry Fruit Trio, Peach Mango, and Apple Pear Watermelon — I’ll know all about the secret inside. These yummy cups contain a combined serving of fruits AND veggies!
I was a little skeptical to try a fruit cup that I knew contained veggies (hidden in the juice — genius!) but you wouldn’t know they were there unless you read the label. My Charlie gobbled his down — which was exactly what I was hoping for! 😉
With a nutritious snack like this on my side, I know he’ll be enjoying something he loves and that I can feel good about every single time. And for days when he buys lunch at school? I’ll be sure to have some Fruit & Veggie Fusions on hand for an after school snack!
