Pretty Pea Coat Fashion and Style

Pretty Pea Coats

The pea coat is an incredibly classic style that should be a part of everyone’s closet. Men, women, and children can all wear this style equally — and with just about any outfit! It’s such a versatile piece and can take you from Autumn, right into Winter.

First worn by European sailors, and later adopted by American navies, the pea coat is now an Autumn must-have that can be worn in a multitude of ways — and colours! Originally, pea coats are a dark navy blue, woollen, and characterized by broad lapels and a double-breasted front. Now, like many truly classic garments, we find pea coats in a variety of colours and styles.

Here are a few of my favourite pea coats for this season!

This latte coloured coat from Free People is stunning. I love the lines, the buttons, and the rounded seams. Wear it over a dress, or even with a pair of faded jeans for a mellow look. This one’s also available in black for a more formal look.

Try on a little vintage love with this beautiful pea coat via A La Plage Vintage. The detailing along the buttons makes me swoon and the dove grey colour is just right! (I’m a bit bummed that this particular one wouldn’t fit me… it’s teensy, but so pretty!)

Looking for a more relaxed, casual style? Try on this plaid number from Free People. I adore colours and metal buttons. Cozy!

Loving the pockets on this Cedar Creek Coat available via Ruche. Great colour! This fully-lined coat would be great for a pop of holiday colour!

And of course, one for the pooch! You’ve got to love this adorable pup-coat from The Rover Boutique. We have a Boston Terrier and I bet he’d be just as dapper in that blue jacket!

My favourite way to wear my pea coat (a simple grey style with a belted middle) is over a dress with tall boots. It’s one of the only styles of coats that actually looks GOOD with a dress — like a part of your outfit. I can’t stand putting on a lovely outfit just to have it hidden under a bulky, winter coat.
