OfflineI have to be honest-I not thrilled about going back to NYC or the Hilton next year. There are many reasons why:
- it's HOT
- the Hilton is SO crowded
- elevators take forever to get on/off
- transportation to anything off site is a pain and takes a long time
- overwhelming invites to brand parties (because many brands are based there)
I assume it's better to be in NYC for the BlogHer folks, with more brands being right there and all. Don't get me wrong, I love NYC for vacations where I can take my time, but it's difficult for BlogHer. I can only hope that next year will be better for me than 2010, 'cause, you know I'll be there regardless. :)
So, what say you? Yay or nay and why?

OfflineYou can't beat walking out of the Convention Center and being so close to the water. The breezes were amazing and so refreshing. The only downside was the long walk between hotel and convention center. Oh and I didn't like the separation of lunchroom from the keynote address area. I'm sure a few bloggers ate lunch in the large open area not realizing that the keynotes were in another room.
New York is amazing. But, it's busy, hot, smoggy. I wonder if BlogHer will return to the Hilton? I didn't love how the Expo Hall was on 2 levels.
My vote would be keep BlogHer in San Diego!

OfflineI was a little surprised to hear it was back in NYC, although I get it from the standpoint of being easier for the brands who are based there. But I was definitely hoping it would be somewhere closer to OK, like Chicago again (I've never been there and always wanted to go) or Texas or somewhere that wouldn't cost a small fortune in airfare.
Last year was my first BlogHer so it was overwhelming anyway and since it was also my very first time in NYC (which I was so excited about because I have always wanted to go there even more than Chicago) it was exhilarating, exciting, exhausting, and completely chaotic and crazy! Honestly, I actually wasn't too excited at first about it being in San Diego this year, until I GOT there. Then, it was so beautiful, so perfect temperature wise, much more convenient travel wise between parties and events, and with an incredible view being so near the water, that I really loved it a lot! I didn't want to leave San Diego, even though I was missing my family a lot. Last year in NYC, by Sunday I was so done and couldn't wait to get home to my nice, quiet suburban city in my little old state of Oklahoma. In San Diego, I hated to leave and wished my family could come there instead. :)
So, as for Blogher being back in NYC, I have mixed feelings. Like Amy said, the hotel was crowded and elevators took a long time, transportation to and from the hotel to get to events was a nightmare, and the whole vibe is very different. I will probably go anyway and will try to not get as stressed out trying to get everywhere like last year. I was bummed about not having time to see some of the places I'd always dreamed of seeing, so next year I will have to allow some time for sight-seeing and fun stuff that is un-BlogHer related.

OfflineI am not excited about BlogHer 12 in NYC. I mean I love NYC, but I like to be a tourist there and you can't really enjoy the city when you are there for a conference like BlogHer. At least in SD it was the perfect temperature and you could walk outside and smell and see the ocean. Everything was within walking distance, and if you were tired the cab rides were cheap to get anywhere. In SD you could still enjoy visiting a new place and enjoy the conference, and there was lots of room!
There were a few things with the convention center that I wish were different, but all in all it was really nice and worked. I am really disappointed that BlogHer chose NYC. I feel that it really works to move the conference around from city to city as some sites enable people to go to BlogHer more easily. I was really really thinking BlogHer would choose Florida this year, or somewhere more centralized.
I really hope BlogHer will either flip flip from east coast to west coast, or try new cities for future conferences. I am going to try to do NYC BlogHer 12, but I definitely see where it is going to hit the pocketbook much harder for everyone.

I wondered why BlogHer 12 wasn't in a new city or even going back to Chicago. I would love to have BlogHer in Las Vegas or New Orleans.

Las Vegas would be so much fun!! I think the decision to go back to NYC was due to the brands…just my opinion.
Mandalyn–I think you are right. There were more smallish brand events in NYC. San Diego was all about the big parties. Loved that the parties were relatively close to the Marriott, except for the Itemize/YouPhoria party. I'll miss the cool, of-the-ocean breezes in NYC in 12. NYC was so hot and muggy. :-(
