Germ Bucket

EMN_0539What is a germ bucket you ask? Well, it’s a place to quickly throw all those boogered up and drooled on toys that my child care kids use every day.

I do all I can to keep the germs at bay in my home. With other peoples children here I try even harder to keep everyone healthy. I do not have time to disinfect every toy each day so I created the “germ bucket”.

I use a shoe box sized plastic container and leave it next to the sink. When one of the children puts a toy in his or her mouth I toss it in the “germ bucket” instead of back in it’s original container. At the end of the day I fill the bucket with hot water and a tiny amount of bleach and let them soak for a few minutes. I use hot soapy water to rinse the bleach off and let the toys air dry.

GREAT idea…. for the month of November I cleaned at a daycare and the toy cleaning always seemed like such a HUGE job – this takes a big job and makes it managable – good thinking!!

Wendy-This is a great idea, I wish I had thought of it when I had a daycare at home. You almost have to keep everything clean and spotless when you have several kids in one house.

I love this idea. Great for all gnawed on items. My daughter’s preschool did a great job disinfecting toys on a regular basis.

On the same note I am astounded at the number of people I have seen not washing their hands after changing a baby’s diaper or helping a child use the bathroom. Also, I have seen adults not wash heir hands after using the bathroom.

Handwashing = health kids and adults.
