Hawaiian Bratwurst Burger Recipe

Did you know that May 28th is National Burger Day? If you’ve been reading this blog for a while you know that I love my back patio and my grill! There’s something about cooking and eating outside that makes it feel less like a chore and more like a vacation. I’ll take any excuse to cook and eat outside, so National Burger Day it is!

I was excited when the folks at Johnsonville asked me to help them by coming up with a new recipe to celebrate National Burger Day. Actually, at first I was confused because I think of Johnsonville as sausages. After all, Johnsonville is the number one brand of sausages in America. Johnsonville Grillers are sausages, but in patty form. These patties (in frozen and fresh varieties) bring the great flavor of gourmet burgers to your bun. Made with only premium cuts of pork and special spice blends, Johnsonville Grillers combine your favorite burger toppings for the most flavorful patty on the grill.

Now, since eating outside always feels like a party to me, I decided to make a tropical recipe using the bratwurst flavor of grillers. I love the way that pineapple and teriyaki sauce emphasize the spices of the bratwurst instead of hiding the flavor. Plus, it’s easy. After all, the whole point of eating outside is ease and comfort.

Ingredients:

  • Johnsonville Grillers
  • 1 red onion, finely chopped
  • 1 can of pineapple tidbits, drained and finely chopped
  • 1 bottle teriyaki sauce
  • 1 package of sweet Hawaiian burger buns

Directions:

  1. Create a salsa by mixing the finely chopped red onion and pineapple together in a bowl (add less onion if you want the salsa sweeter). Set aside.
  2. Grill Johnsonville Grillers until cooked through, brushing on teriyaki sauce mid-way on both sides.
  3. Place cooked Johnsonville Griller patty on bottom bun, top with salsa and top bun, then enjoy!

What do you think? Will you be celebrating National Burger Day?
