How To Get More Blogging Done This Summer
Guest Post by Crissy Herron
When you think of Summer, do those “lemonade commercials” pop into your head? Images of people relaxing in hammocks or sitting on a dock, enjoying the warm weather and a glass of lemonade? Sounds nice, doesn’t it? But then, you realize that you have a ton of stuff to do, the kids are home from school, so you need to entertain them, and you have to figure out how to find the time to write a few blog posts on top of all that.
Luckily – I can help you with that last item on your to-do list. Here are some tips to help you get more blogging done this Summer.
Write A “Best Of” Blog Post – I bet you already have a lot of great content on your blog. Your new readers haven’t seen your older posts, and even the readers who’ve been with you since the beginning won’t remember every single post you’ve ever written. Recycle your older content into new “Best Of” blog posts.
For example, let’s say that over the years, you’ve shared several recipes for “Summery” foods, such as salads, BBQ, or homemade ice cream. And maybe you’ve written some posts on things you’ve done to keep your kids busy during the Summer months, or maybe you’ve wrote about your family vacations.
Gather up all the links and put them into one “Best Of” post. You could create a “Best Of Summer Foods” post or a “The Best Vacations We Ever Took,” or a “5 Fun Kid Games I Created.” Write a quick introductory paragraph at the beginning of the post and then make a list of all the posts you’ve written on that topic, and publish your new post. Easy peasy!
Make Quick Videos – Chances are, you have a smartphone that takes videos. Instead of writing a post, share a quick video with your readers. For example, the next time you go to the Farmer’s Market, take some videos of what’s going on around you and then put all the short videos into one longer video. (I use the iMovie app on my iPhone for this.) You can also do this on a number of other topics – instead of writing out your favorite recipe, make a video. Instead of writing out the steps to your favorite craft, make a video. The ideas are endless!
Ask Your Readers For Advice – We all know that people love to give out advice and offer their opinions. A super simple way to create new content on your blog is to ask your readers for their advice! For example, let’s say that you are thinking of planting a garden, but don’t know which veggies to plant. Or maybe your garden is giving you tons of cucumbers and you don’t know what to do with them. Write a quick post, explaining your dilemma, and ask for advice. Your readers will be commenting with their opinions, those that commented are going to come back to see if other people commented on their comments and so forth. You’ll have great content on your blog – without having to do much writing.
