Interview With A Blogger: Andi Fisher, Misadventures With Andi
Hello, friends! This morning we’re sharing our interview with Andi Fisher of Misadventures With Andi! This awesome, world-travelling blogger and foodie finds herself at home in Berkley, but is likely to be exploring the world with her laptop by her side. She writes with healthy dose of reality and humour — and really, you’re just going to love her!
Take a peek below to learn more about her!
Hi there, Andi!
So, what prompted you to start blogging?
In 2003, I moved to Switzerland to work. This was the first time I had lived in a foreign country without my parents (I grew up military living all over), so of course there were mishaps, or misadventures, which I reported to all my friends and family in a weekly email called Misadventures with Andi. I didn’t know at the time but this was my “birth” as a blogger. In 2008 (after having moved back to the US) I took a creative writing course and realized immediately that writing really was a passion of mine. I immediately launched a blog, and because I am still a giant klutz the misadventures name stuck!
Tell us about your day job/educational pursuits?
I am a digital marketer by profession. I have worked at several technology companies running internet, e-commerce and social media programs all over the world. I am currently the Director of Social Media for a private bank, running the strategy and program there with an amazing team.
Where’s the farthest from home you’ve ever travelled? Tell us about your experience.
I have traveled far and wide. I am a gypsy! I have been throughout Western Europe, Asia and Latin America. From the moment I began my career any extra money I earned went to travel. I was also extremely lucky to find jobs that allowed me to use my experiences to work on projects wherever my boss would send me. I was always the first to volunteer to hop on a plane whether it was nine weeks in China, four weeks in Tokyo or three years in Switzerland.
What skill do you hope to master over the next year?
My word of the year is “refine” which is tied to the need to be very intentional about everything I do. I have an extremely full life and the tendency to take on too much so I am trying to make sure that I expend my energy in a meaningful manner. It certainly is a challenge.
However that is more a life skill rather than something tactical, so I would also say that I would love to under SEO a little bit better. I understand the basics, but would love to take that to the next level.
What’s your current favourite song/band? And what are you reading?
I am not a huge music fan, I rarely have it on, but I do have favorites. I was lucky enough to work a couple of Grammy rehearsals, which exposed me to Bruno Mars, I love “Locked Out of Heaven!” I am a total bookworm! Although I read a lot more blogs than books these days I do read on my commute everyday (I take the San Francisco Bay Area BART, our subway system) and enjoy cop thrillers, a good romance and historical fiction, I just finished reading Ken Follett’s Fall of Giants and Winter of the World.
Share three blogs you adore!
Wow that is a toughie! I have nearly 600 blogs in my feeder and so many favorites. But if I was forced to delete them all but three, they would be Lost in Cheeseland, JenX67 and Domestiphobia. Now I feel like a parent who has been asked which child is her favorite!
Thank you so much for sharing your intriguing story and awesome photos, Andi! No matter how many rad folks we interview via Mom Spark, I’m always so excited to “meet” them and learn a little more about each person — if you want to read back, click here to see our past interviews as well!
