Interview With A Blogger: April Nienhuis, Clickin Moms
Today we’re chatting with April Nienhuis, who works with a site I’ve been a fan of for a long time: Clickin Moms! This gal is the mother of three beautiful children and has been wowing the world with her photography via her own blog and CMblog! Take a peek below to find out more about this inspiring woman!
Hi there, April!
So, what prompted you to start blogging?
Although I started blogging personally almost 8 years ago in order to keep in touch with friends and family, I started blogging for Clickin Moms 2.5-3 years ago. It was just a matter of me coming up with many ideas for blog articles and series and passing those off to those in charge of the blog at the time. Eventually there was a need for an Assistant Editor and because of all my previous suggestions, I was the first person they thought of for that role. My position has evolved from there but it’s really just thinking of something I would like to read and then writing it myself or finding another photographer who would be perfect for that topic. I also have many photographers reach out to me with great ideas for them to write about for the CMblog.
Tell us about your day job/educational pursuits?
I am the Director of Online Media for Clickin Moms. I coordinate the content for the CMblog and when I’m not doing that, you’ll see me around on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Pinterest socializing and sharing with everyone. I love that my job keeps me constantly surrounded by so many incredible artists and in turn, constantly keeps me inspired.
Where’s the farthest from home you’ve ever travelled? Tell us about your experience.
The furthest from home I’ve ever traveled is Las Vegas. I was actually born there but we moved to Oklahoma when I was two so this has always been home for me. My first trip to Vegas was when I was 21 but it wasn’t for what you think. I actually went with the ENT clinic I was working for at the time and although we did have some fun time there, the purpose for going was for training. I’ve been twice since then, both of those times for a photography conference.
What skill do you hope to master over the next year?
Would finding the motivation everyday to exercise be considered a skill? Haha! It’s not about weight loss but I know that if I were to exercise everyday, even if for only 15-20 minutes, would be good for my health and brain. Now if only I could find the daily motivation to actually do it…
Photography wise, I’d love to further my knowledge on post processing. Blogging wise, I really enjoy learning about SEO and would love to focus in on that even more this year.
What’s your current favourite song/band? And what are you reading?
Oh, I could never choose a favorite because my taste in music is so vast. One minute you’ll find me listening to George Strait and the very next I’ll be listening to Eminem. It all depends on my mood and what I’m working on at the moment.
I just finished the book A Million Little Ways by Emily P Freeman and it was excellent! Next on my list is The Fairy Tales of Hans Christian Andersen. The kids think this is for them but it’s for me too 🙂
Share three blogs you adore!
