Interview With A Blogger: Desiree Eaglin, The Funny Mom Blog
Today we’re chatting with the founder of The Funny Mom Blog, Southern California resident, Desiree Eaglin! I’ll admit, the first time I popped over to her blog was because I spotted her on Twitter and we just happen to have the same (fabulous!) first name! Now I like to check out her blog for great recipes, cute Instagram pics, and more! Keep reading to find out more about Desiree and how she got her start!
So, what prompted you to start blogging?
I started blogging in 2006 when I was knocked up with my first child. It was a family blog called none other than “The Eaglin Family Blog”. Then I realized I had more to say than the grandparents should read so I eventually started a personal blog called “Sarcastic, Funny and Brutally Honest” on blogspot. I was inspired to name SF&BH after “Boobs, Injuries and Dr. Pepper” because she said those were the three things that described her best, so I sat down and thought about what described me best and I came up with “Sarcastic, Funny and Brutally Honest”. I had a lot of fun with both blogs but I ran out of time and motivation to keep them going.
I started blogging again in 2011 when I read a call for contributors on Facebook for a local blog. Contributing to that blog got me back into the blogosphere and I started up my own blog again called “The Funny Mom Blog” and I haven’t faltered since.
Tell us about your day job/educational pursuits?
For the next several thousand years I am a stay at home mom and my day job “pursuit” will be raising my four wackos to be successful members of society that remember to wash their hands and not pick their noses in public. I have found a huge amount of personal fulfillment in blogging funny and real stories about my life. When the children are older and more independent I’d really just like to go where the wind takes me – keeping my options open and doing whatever I feel like. Is that so bad?
However that’s not to say that I don’t have personal aspirations other than being a crappy, half-assed mom. I’d love to do a Sunday cartoon series and to write and illustrate children’s books. I just have to learn how to draw first.
Where’s the farthest from home you’ve ever travelled? Tell us about your experience.
I went with my husband to Aruba for a work trip in 2005 or 2006. It was awful and hot and smelled like funk.
What skill do you hope to master over the next year?
I’m going to keep sharpening my design and html coding skills.
What’s your current favourite song/band? And what are you reading?
I don’t have time to read! Are you crazy? Haha. I am not ashamed to admit that I’m a huge fan of pop music. I’m currently loving “Rude” by Magic and “Stay with Me” by Sam Smith – mostly because they’re both played on I heart radio 15,000 times a day.
Share three blogs you adore!
- House of Prince by Kim Tracy Prince: Besides being one of my best bloggy friends, she’s an amazing writer with a unique point of view.
- Illustrated with Crappy Pictures by Amber Dusick: I adore Amber’s sense of quiet, real humor.
- Buzzfeed: Ok so it’s not technically a blog, but Buzzfeed is damn funny and I love funny.
