Interview With A Blogger: Elizabeth Sellers, Rosalilium
We’ve hopped across the pond today to chat with Elizabeth Sellers of Rosalilium! I came across her site a little while back and I’ve been loving her work so much. She’s quite involved with the UK blogging scene and I can’t wait for you to get to know her better. Keep on scrollin’!
So, what prompted you to start blogging?
Back in 2008 I was about to set off my solo backpacking trip around Southeast Asia and I wanted to keep in touch with the folks back home, so I set up a little blog which I kept updated for 4 months. It became a daily habit and I became hooked! So after a second trip and second travel blog I began writing my lifestyle blog, Rosalilium in 2010. At the time I was suffering with ill health and the blogging community were a lifeline to the outside world. I began to discover my passions and interests plus made loads of awesome friends!
Tell us about your day job/educational pursuits?
Blogging is pretty much my main job, and I love it! I am a freelancer so I do a huge range of activities around running my blog, teaching my e-course – The Big Blogging Bootcamp, running Blognix – my blogging resource blog and conference, public speaking, workshops, social media management and brand collaborations. It’s super-hectic but incredibly rewarding.
Where’s the farthest from home you’ve ever travelled? Tell us about your experience.
When I was backpacking around Southeast Asia, best experience ever, I decided to ‘pop over’ to Australia to visit my family on the Sunshine Coast. Of course, a 9 hour flight from KL to Brisbane is hardly popping over, but I had an amazing experience down under!
I’m a curious traveller at heart and thrive on discovering new things, seeking out experiences, meeting different people and enjoying everything the world has to offer. Travelling, whether it’s within the UK or across the world, is very much a part of who I am.
What skill do you hope to master over the next year?
One of my big aims for 2014 is to master video filming and editing. I am hoping to expand my Youtube channel and provide interesting and entertaining content there. As a seasoned blogger I feel quite comfortable and confident with the written word and photography. But video is a really new thing for me and I’m aiming to really push myself out of my comfort zone there. It’s the best way to learn!
I’m also hoping to give my e-course a big boost and expand the Big Blogging Bootcamp into three separate streams.
Finally, I really want to nail my public speaking skills. It’s something I still find rather nerve-wracking but ultimately rather fulfilling – getting to share my knowledge and insights on a topic I’m so passionate about.
What’s your current favourite song/band? And what are you reading?
Current favourite song is ‘Battles’ by a new Irish band called Hudson Taylor. Their album isn’t out yet but this song is stunning!
Currently reading ‘Emotional Branding’ – I like to keep my brain working and learn new things. I’m really fascinated about the value of a brand and this book is pretty darn interesting. I’ve only just started it so I’ll get back to you on my final thoughts!
Share three blogs you adore!
- Junkaholique: I have been following Artemis’ blog since 2010 and it’s one of my faves. Beautiful photography, stunning family and people who make every effort to enjoy the beauty in the simple things in life. So inspiring.
- Delightfully Tacky: Again, I’ve been reading Elizabeth’s blog for year and utterly adore her photography, style and she has a great voice. She’s so down-to-earth and accessible.
- Forever Amber: Amber is witty, stunning and every post is guaranteed to be entertaining. One of my favourite fashion bloggers.
Thanks again for chatting with us today, Elizabeth! I can’t wait to see what’s next for you!
