Interview With A Blogger: Joey Lynn Resciniti, Big Teeth & Clouds
Hi friends! Sunday is here again (already!) which means it’s time for another edition of Interview With A Blogger! Today I’m pleased to be sharing Joey Lynn Resciniti of Big Teeth & Clouds! Get to know her below!
So, what prompted you to start blogging?
I started blogging in the summer of 2009 because I thought it was a good way to start to earn an income from writing. I’ve been putting the “free” in “freelance” ever since! Even though I’m not getting paid much, I developed a love for blogging as a hobby after writing my first post about my daughter’s hearing loss. I connected with a whole community of families that felt just as devastated and then later relieved and proud as they progressed through the journey that is hearing aids and speech therapy. Just this year, I divided the blog. I now have Big Teeth & Clouds for recipes and my quirky life observations. Magic Ear Kids (magicearkids.blogspot.com) is devoted to childhood hearing loss topics.
Tell us about your day job/educational pursuits?
Currently, I’m working to finish my first novel and get it published. I’m also designing a web site for my husband’s new company, volunteering to organize Vacation Bible School at church and co-leading my daughter’s Girl Scout troop. I fit in attempts at dominating the world of social media where I can!
Where’s the farthest from home you’ve ever travelled? Tell us about your experience.
My husband had an opportunity through work to go to Hawaii about eighteen months ago. My daughter missed the first week of second grade so we could accompany him. It was everything I dreamed it would be. Hawaiian Air has little monitors in the head rests that display a map so you can track your progress over the ocean. When you’re about to land they bring around complimentary Mai Tais. I don’t ever drink alcohol, but I couldn’t pass it up! We went to an authentic luau (Germaine’s – best on the island) on my 32nd birthday, hiked through a rain forest to a gorgeous waterfall, and my daughter tried surfing for the first time. It was the trip of a lifetime!
What skill do you hope to master over the next year?
I hope to master the skill of self-promotion over the next year. I have a lot of trouble talking about my novel. I need to develop an “elevator speech” and send out query letters. The whole thing honestly terrifies me!
What’s your current favourite song/band? And what are you reading?
I’m loving The Lumineers lately. So many of their songs sound warm and summery. We’ve really needed that this winter.
Right now I’m reading Crazy Stories, Sane God by John Alan Turner. I can hardly put it down. He tells Old Testament Bible stories in a way that is nearly laugh out loud funny. Best time I’ve ever had reading Bible stories!
