Interview With A Blogger: Kelly Whalen, The Centsible Life
So, what prompted you to start blogging?
I started blogging because of my husband, actually. I had been sharing information in a forum (now defunct) and with friends and family about our journey to live on less and pay off our debt. He thought it would be a great outlet for me, and bought me some books and a laptop for the holidays! I started the blog a few weeks later and haven’t stopped since!
Tell us about your day job/educational pursuits?
I’m a blogger, freelance writer, and social media strategist. I spend my days writing, tweeting, and emailing or speaking to clients about social media. I love what I do so I’m always eager to work!
Where’s the farthest from home you’ve ever traveled? Tell us about your experience.
My parents took my sister and I to Europe during summer break after my freshman year in college. My mom had traveled to Spain for work so we met her in Barcelona after her trip was done and traveled on the coast of Spain and into France. It was rather eye-opening for an 18 year old, and my years of high school French came in handy. The best part was getting to see where my grandparents were stationed in Nice when my Dad was a teen (my grandfather was in the Navy). We also ended up being in Cannes during the film festival and saw limos that had California license plates! Apparently someone needed their own limo brought over for the occasion!
What skill do you hope to master over the next year?
I really want to improve my photography skills. I dabbled in it as a hobby as a kid/teen so I’d like to get back to it! I don’t know that I will ‘master’ it but I hope to improve and learn more.
What’s your current favorite song/band? And what are you reading?
Right now I’m obsessed with Pharell’s ‘Happy’ song from Despicable Me 2. It’s so catchy, and it’s getting me through all the snow we’ve had this winter.
I’ve been reading blogs more than books lately. I tend to go in cycles reading a ton of books at once or focusing on a favorite TV show (binge watching House of Cards right now!), but have a large stack on my bedside table and virtual bookshelf including Doctor Sleep, Invisible Murder, and Hyperbole and a Half.
