On Fate and Letting The World Take Care Of You

I tend to live by the belief that everything in our life happens for a reason. Sometimes we can’t yet understand that reason, but I’ve found that in time, the answers tend to present themselves.

Earlier this week, after spending months trying to find my lost passport and birth certificate, I caved in and decided it was time to start the new ID ordering process online. I hadn’t been able to find my passport in such a long time, and since BlogHer’13 is coming up… I knew I had to just give in and accept the fact that I’d have to get a new one.

Step one: Gather all the information needed to apply for the new birth certificate.
Step two: Fill the forms out online.
Step three: Payment.

But nothing would work. Credit card? Error message. Online debit transfer? Error message. Another credit card? Nothing! I was beyond frustrated at this point. Why was nothing working? Why are government websites the most miserable sites to deal with? Why, why, why…

And so eventually I gave up in a huff and went to bed.

The next day, I was going through a bag of random papers and bills that I hadn’t sorted through, and sure enough, there was my passport. Simply sitting in a spot I’d passed a million times and I nearly cried I was so happy.

I picked it up, opened it, and there sat my birth certificate. Nicely tucked into the center fold.

And then I thought back to the previous night’s frustrations and was suddenly so grateful that whatever computery mishap had not allowed me to order that new piece of ID. Thank you world!

Life is funny like that. So often, the frustrations we face, end up leading us to the right answer. I think we just have to be patient and let the world take care of us something.

Do you believe everything happens for a reason? Why or why not?
