I really, really dig the Fourth of July. Like a lot. I love the patriotism, the red white, and blue, and especially, the firecrackers. Yes, I have my moments of being a total firebug. If it pops, crackles, or lights up the night sky I’m down.

And all of the little kids I’ve ever known have also been all about the boom. So it seemed quite natural to make Patriotic candy firecrackers for my upcoming Fourth of July plans. And the great news is this is so simple that you can have the kids knocking these out while you’re making the potato salad!

For this project you will need:

First, cut out your shapes. I cut out stars and saved the strips I cut them from and made strips of varying widths.

Next, take your candy, and roll it up in paper to make a clean background, using your glue stick to attach it to the existing candy wrapper. Embellish as you’d like and glue a snippet of pipe cleaner at the end to act as the fuse.

My favorites are definitely the ones that look like little American flags! Get creative and make lots of styles, or find one you dig and continue making that one over and over.

If using chocolate, be sure to display it accordingly. You don’t want kids running around with melted chocolate all over your house!

These are just about the safest firecrackers you can have at your upcoming Fourth of July bash. See you next week!
