I’ll admit it, I’m a sucker for animated movies with animals. Not just because I like being able to go to the movies with my kids, but also because they always lend themselves to great theme parties, crafts, and snacks! I mean yes, you can create these things without a film to base it on, but being able to tie the snack or theme to a movie helps make the movie come alive even more.

Lucky for me, a new animated movie is on its way on September 9th – “The Wild Life.”

The Wild Life Movie

From the over-exuberant parrot Mak to the snack-obsessed tapir Rosie, from the persnickety echidna Epi to the acrobatic pangolin Pango, from the ditzy goat Scrubby to the commonsensical kingfisher Kiki and the always-cool chameleon Carmello, things are larger-than-life on a tropical isle that is pure wild animal paradise.

Then Robinson Crusoe, a marooned human, arrives in the midst of a furious storm, and their lives are forever changed by this bewildering new “creature.”  No matter their differences, castaway human and quirky animals embark on an hilarious new adventure, building the island’s first tree-house and surviving together.  But when two conniving members of the animal kingdom — the savage cats Mal & May – pounce into a battle for control of the island, Crusoe and his animal posse must uncover the true power of friendship against all odds (even savage cats).

Have you seen the preview for “The Wild Life”, yet?

Doesn’t it look cute???

This film is going to be a popular party theme this fall, I just know it.

One easy idea I have for creating a themed-snack to go with a “The Wild Life” shindig is Pretzel Rod Palm Tree Snacks. You all are going to love these.

Pretzel snacks are always a good choice for kids’ parties because they’re low fat, everyone likes them, the different shapes make them versatile, and it’s easy to tell which brands are nut free.

Yield: as many as you want!

Ingredients:

  • pretzel rods
  • green candy melts
  • yellow sugar

Directions:

  1. Melt green candy melts in a microwave bowl according to the instructions. When fully melted, transfer to a zipped sandwich baggie. Cut off a small corner of the baggie in order to squeeze the melted candy out of the hole.
  2. Cover wax or parchment paper on a flat table or kitchen counter and start creating palm tree tops! Sprinkle yellow sugar and let cool.
  3. One cool, use a dab of melted candy on the top of a pretzel rod and attach the topper. Voila - you have palm trees!
