Story Time Extension: Make Reading Fun!!

I love reading to my children. We find ourselves cuddled up in the chair reading books several times a day. If you have a favorite title, a great way to extend that book is to create an activity based on something that happened in the story.

Today I read The Gingerbread Man to Lani and my other child care children. To extend that story we baked our own gingerbread cookies. While baking the cookies we talked about the book. What were their favorite parts? Singing the silly song. Discussing if cookies could really run and talk.

Here are some pics from our morning!! (oh yes, I washed the table before rolling out the dough)

Happy Reading….

Storytelling and baking are really fun activities for your kids. I can see that Lani enjoyed baking cookies. She's all smiles while mixing the dough. I hope you'll share more stories of the fun activities you had with your children.=)

I love this idea. Now that summer holidays are here I am looking for ideas to keep us busy and this one is one I’ll definitely try.

What a wonderful idea. My boys are older now, but we wore out many favorites, like Goodnight Moon(I could probably still recite that one from memory.) We had it on book form, video form, and even a board game.
But the Gingerbread Man is such a fun one to “act” out with the baking and singing….sweet memories.
