Take the Pledge and Invite People Over!
I love entertaining, but sometimes I get too caught up in finding the perfect time, coming up with a theme, and of course, getting the house clean and decorated.
That’s why I’ve decided to make a pledge to casually and spontaneously invite people over at least twice this summer. No worrying about cleaning the house first! This most likely means we’ll be eating on my back patio, because, while I’m trying to relax I can’t let it all go and have people in my house if it’s a disaster.
Maybe when my youngest invites a friend over, I’ll ask his parents to stay for dinner. Maybe when I see a neighbor mowing the lawn, I’ll invite him over, who knows!
Now, the key to being spontaneous is of course, to be well prepared. As I’ve mentioned before, one of my favorite things to serve is Dr. Oetker Ristorante Pizza. They have a tasty thin and crispy crust, and their varieties (Pepperoni Pesto, Funghi, Quattro Formaggi among others) seem gourmet and exotic, but are totally easy to prepare (10 minutes at 425°F).
So, my plan for the summer is to keep Ristorante on hand in the freezer. I love Ristorante Pizza not just because it’s quick, but also because it’s decadent and delicious, made with only the freshest ingredients. You don’t always think of frozen pizza as “company food,” but this brand really makes a last-minute gathering a party.
Now, most people also like to know they’re getting the most out of summer’s vegetables with their meal. If you have trouble keeping vegetables fresh in the summer months one little trick I have is to keep dried fruit like cranberries or apricots on hand. Throwing dried fruit into the salad makes it a little sweeter and adds fiber and vitamins. Another idea is to use frozen veggies to make cold veggie soups. Cold soups are easy to throw together in the blender, and because the veggies are frozen, you don’t have to shop before guests. Ristorante Pizza plus a salad or veggie soup gives you a fully balanced meal that’s fun and easy!
I’m also going to keep some frozen fruits that can quickly be blended into margaritas or fancy fruit drinks. Who knows, maybe I’ll keep some paper umbrellas on hand, too, for an extra festive feel.
Then, when the mood strikes I can invite someone over and voila, instant deck party.
If you want to get a little fancier with this, check out my post from last summer on Backyard Patio Parties, but for me, I’m going to focus on the people (and the yummy pizza) and try not to think about the thrills.
By the way, to find Ristorante Pizzas check out your local supermarket, and if they don’t currently sell Ristorante, you can put in a request with the store manager.
