The Blogging Community Helps Melissa Garcia & Family
I’m sure you have heard by now about the flash flooding we received in Oklahoma City/Edmond area earlier this week. Fortunately, my area stayed flood-free, but just a few miles west, Melissa Garcia’s (@consumerqueen) home was completely flooded. Almost everything was destroyed in her home. They do not have flood insurance because they do not live in a flood zone. Nothing like this has ever happened in this area of Edmond. The good news is that she and her family are safe at her mother-in-law’s house, but they essentially lost everything and have to gut their house and rebuild. They just recently moved into this home and had just bought new furniture. Below is video of their neighborhood flooded.
Melissa already has a lot on her plate. She works full-time supporting her husband who suffers from Ankylosing Spondylitis, two school age children, and also her mother who suffers from Klippel-Feil Syndrome. On top of all of that, she runs the successful Consumer Queen blog, has a weekly gig on a local radio station giving frugal living tips and much, much more. She’s a busy lady.
When the blogging community found out about Melissa’s situation, they immediately went to work contacting brands, past clients, and businesses for help. It has been so amazing what this community has done in such a short period of time! In this post, I will keep an ongoing list of what we have collected for the Garcia family, so please check back often. I encourage you to visit and give kudos to these brands who have stepped up in a time of need. Some of the following items are also being shared with other neighbors who were flooded, too.

Please consider donating so you can help them regain their normal life once again. Monica Brady (@mommybrain) and myself are organizing this help for The Garcias, so please contact either one of us if you would like to help. You can follow our Twitter stream at #CQRelief.
Thank you, blogging community and brands, for simply being awesome.
