The KitchenAid Stand Mixer Changed My Life. {recipe ideas}

Let me preface by saying that this post is in no way sponsored by KitchenAid or a PR firm. In fact, for years I longed for the chance to review a KitchenAid stand mixer, but the chance never came my way.  A few of my blogging colleagues did get the chance, which deepened my longing, especially when I witnessed the time the mixer saved with cooking and baking, as well as the rave reviews I kept reading.

And then something wonderful happened.

My mother-in-law bought me one for Christmas. A red, shiny KitchenAid stand mixer.

And I almost fainted.

When I first opened the box, I stared at it for a while not knowing exactly where to start or if I were even worthy of something so perfect.

So, I made some lemon poppyseed muffins.  And I burnt them all.

But I didn’t care because I LOVED the machine.

Then things started getting crazy around here.

For example, I mixed cornbread batter:

and chocolate chip cookie bars:

see chocolate chip cookie bars recipe

and cupcakes:

and whipped potatoes:

recipe: boiled russet potatoes whipped with milk, butter, salt and pepper

and barbeque sauce for country ribs:

recipe coming!

and then my life was forever changed.

Seriously, the mixer makes my life so much easier and actually inspires me to cook and bake MORE. I’m so thankful for this magical piece of machinery.

So, if you don’t have one, get one, especially if you cook regularly. (you can buy one on Amazon HERE with my affiliate link)

My kitchen looks like a KitchenAid showroom with all the KA stuff I have in there. I love it! I definitely couldn’t live without the stand mixer. I use it for pretty much everything and when I don’t, I use my KitchenAid food processor.

My parents bought one for me when I graduated college last year. I probably use it at least once a week. I use the paddle attachment to mix my meatloaf bc I hate touching raw meat…lol. I also saw where someone used theirs to shred their pork loin.

When we first got our kitchen aid mixer, I thought we should put showcase lights on it. It’s actually my husband’s. He makes and bakes all the time. :) We actually wore one out, (I’m older than you.) and my mom never used hers so I, I mean my hubby, got to inherit it. We love it. It also has some cool accessories to use when you want to make applesauce. My friend borrow it every fall to make applesauce, too.

    Congrats on your new toy!

I love my KitchenAid as well! It’s truly a gift from the heavens when it comes to baking :) My favorite dessert is French silk pie … a glorious mixture of butter, eggs & chocolate. But because it uses 3 eggs, and you have to beat the mixture at least 5 mins after adding each egg, it’s a nightmare with a handheld mixer – and heaven forbid if you’re entertaining and need to double! With my KitchenAid – I can make French silk any time I want! Not good.

Here’s a recipe – it’s super-easy to make, but tastes like it was oh so difficult:
    http://www.cooks.com/rec/view/0,1918,152186-241196,00.html

    Couple hints:
    1. Since it uses raw eggs, either use pasteurized eggs or check the fresh eggs before you use by dropping each in a cup or bowl of water. If the egg sinks, it’s OK; if it floats to the top, throw it out; if it sits in the middle, only eat it cooked.
    2. Instead of putting the French silk in a pie crust, I love to use little chocolate bowls. Top with a dollop of whipped cream & chocolate shavings. Beautiful & delicious – and about a million calories! Kids really love the edible bowls :)

    Enjoy!!!

@Andrea, Love this recipe and the tip of the eggs, thank you! My husband loves French Silk pie, so I’ll have to try this!

Do you leave it out on the counter? I think I would use mine more if my husband wasn’t so opposed to it being out all the time. I’d really like to try the pasta attachments someday! I use it mostly for baking.

Dan and I actually went together and bought one for our Christmas to each other. We both love it! it’s so much easier to bake now and almost makes me want to bake more. At first I kept looking at the light blue one, but we ended up getting the white one…. I love it! We have it set out on the counter, so it’s there beckoning every time we go in the kitchen.:)

How do you like the bowl with the handle? We have the regular bowl, but we’re thinking about getting another bowl just to have an extra….

I think the white one is really cool! Very retro. Which bowl do you have? I really like having the handle for pouring.

I love my Kitchen Aid stand mixer but I tend to use it the most during the holidays when I am mass-baking. After Christmas, I decided that I had paid way too much to only use it a few times a year, so now it is sitting on my counter instead of up on my cabinets! I plan to use it for many more every day recipes!

    [Reply]

    • Mom Spark replied: — January 11th, 2012 @ 11:46 am

@Jenn @therebelchick, When I first received mine, I immediately thought about baking, which is something that I don’t do that often. (with the exception of holidays, as you said) BUT when I got to talking to my mother-in-law, she told me about various ways to use it for every day meals, like mashed potatoes. Really, anything that you would normally stir with a spoon can be used by the mixer. Win!

I LOVE mine! I love making cookie dough, and being able to mix cake batter while doing other things in the kitchen. And, of course, mashed potatoes. Such a sense of freedom to multi-task! I only wish I had been more bold and gone with another color besides white!

@Linda Landers, I made cookie dough the other night for the cookie bars and it was awesome being able to add flour gradually with BOTH hands. It was so hard to do that before with a handheld mixer.

    Chrysa — January 11, 2012 at 6:38 pm

I also LOVE my KitchenAid Mixer, but I admit that I don’t use it nearly as much as I would like to. My husband bought me the slicer attachment for Christmas and I haven’t even taken it out of the box yet.

The one thing however, that I ALWAYS mix in the KitchenAid is my “world famous” (well at least friend and family circle famous) Healthy Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies. The mixer just makes them so much easier to do. (Oh, and you can see the recipe here: http://www.thriftyjinxy.com/2008/04/works-for-me-wednesday-healthy-oatmeal.html

    Jo-Lyn's Cup Cakes N' Candies — January 11, 2012 at 8:57 pm

I can’t tell you how many giveaways I entered trying to win a new KitchenAid Mixer just before Christmas this last year. I have a plain-o-jane-o white one. It’s a heavy duty one, though. It has been great, but I think it’s on its last leg. I want a pretty red one with a glass bowl. Or a green one or a ….oh heck, any color will do!! I love my KitchenAid and I just can’t bear the thought of not having it! They are a little on the expensive side, though, thus the giveaway entering. =) Alas, I didn’t win any of the giveaways I entered…. =(

So, I just hope my trusty ol’ KitchenAid doesn’t give up the ghost before I can get my hands on a new one!!

I have the plastic splatter guard and the meat grinder for mine. Oh and the whisk, paddle and dough hook. That’s it! =)

@Jo-Lyn’s Cup Cakes N’ Candies, Doesn’t the KitchenAid Stand Mixer have a lifetime warranty? You may be able to exchange it for a new one if it breaks! May be worth researching. :)

I love my kitchenaid mixer! I use it for everything. It makes making a meringue buttercream frosting so easy.

I love using it to knead bread dough when I’m not in the mood to knead it by hand. And it is so easy to make these King Arthur Flour flat-bread gordita’s http://www.flouronmyface.com/2010/01/flat-bread-gordita-recipe.html

I have a 26 year old KitchenAid mixer. I fear for it’s demise; it’s been my constant companion in the kitchen and I know it sounds crazy but if it ever dies I will absolutely be sad in a way beyond having to buy a new one. I’m glad I have an old one…they are workhorses; I only hope yours lasts half as long. Have great fun!

I consider my Kitchenaid both a function and beautiful part of my kitchen..seriously I occasionally catch myself just staring at it lovingly (mind you, this is usually while I wait for my coffee to brew so I could just be sleeping with my eyes open). My favourite recipe is the pizza dough- the one that comes in the recipe book with the machine. It has never failed me, freezes great, and impresses the pants off guests.

This makes me so excited to use mine! I have been patient for over a year and combed for deals regularly. My patience was finally rewarded and I got the pro 600 model in pearl metallic as well as the deluxe five piece pasta set. All of it brand new for $220 including shipping. I would share how but it can’t be repeated unfortunately. I can’t WAIT to get started though. It already inspired me to clean my counter so I have a place to put it lol. Homemade ravioli for Christmas this year! (My Italian family tradition) hoping to cut the time down to a few hours instead of all day.
