This week my little Ontario city finally got hit with a wallop of snow. For a town that’s usually in the -20s by now (Celcius, that is, don’t panic) it’s strange that the snow didn’t show up until after Christmas. Now that it’s arrived, however, I’m enjoying getting all bundled up in my coziest Canadian wintertime gear.

For the last few years I’ve been all about cowls, especially of the knit variety. I even made a few back when I was pregnant with my daughter. This year I’m enjoying super chunky cowls — thick & warm (and simple to make!) Here’s are a few of my favourite looks thus far:

1. Cabled Glücksburg Cowl via Snorka Knits, 2. A stripey cotton cowl spotted on The Purl Bee, 3. Chunky Roycroft cowl by Lulu & Loie, & 4. I’m actually wearing this Pumpkin Spice cowl from My Paper Plane right now — so soft!

Sometimes I hear these referred to as circle scarves or tunnel scarves. Or even infinity scarves if they’ve been knit in such a way that they make a Möbius strip.

What do you call them? Are their cowls in your collection?
