Kicking off Summer with Grilling and S’mores!

With Memorial Day Weekend officially behind us, it’s officially summer!
If you’ve been reading my blog for a while you know that one of my favorite parts of summer is bringing friends and family together on my backyard patio. We redecorated the patio last year and it is my happy place for family time. In fact, I’ve already kicked off my first cookout of the season for Memorial Day with family and friends hosted by the quintessential S’mores brands, HONEY MAID Grahams, HERSHEY’s Milk Chocolate and JET-PUFFED Marshmallows!
My barbeque took place on May 24th and I even went LIVE on the S’mores Facebook page. Watch me name S’mores the ‘Official Dessert of the BBQ!’
My theme for the party was “Memorial Day, Your Way,” meaning that everything I served could be adapted to be the way that my guests liked it.
For example, hamburgers included any condiment and vegetables that my guests wanted, corn on the cob can be dressed up like elote (with cheese and/ or chili powder) or just simply topped with butter, and traditional S’mores had a full toppings bar. What? Yes, I said S’mores with toppings!
Obviously, the most important part of my Memorial Day barbeque were the S’mores – I even dubbed S’mores the ‘Official Dessert of the BBQ.’ They are truly the taste of summer!
For me, S’mores are more than just the perfect dessert at the end of the meal, they’re a way to bring the party back together.
Think about it. One of the greatest things about backyard barbecues is that everyone comes together for the same purpose – to eat, chat and escape. Some may fill up their plates then retreat to a quiet spot. Kids may grab S’mores and then head right to the sprinkler. Others may sit on the patio floor and laugh about the memories they share. S’mores brings everyone back together for one more final sweet treat, which provides the perfect ending to the evening.
With everyone grabbing their own skewers and gathering around the grill, not only are they delicious and so easy to make, but making S’mores is just such a special experience! Everyone loves to roast their marshmallows to their own personal perfection and share some laughs.
No matter how good your toppings are, you need to get the S’mores themselves just right.
The best way to start is with the classic ingredients: HONEY MAID Grahams, HERSHEY’S Milk Chocolate, and JET-PUFFED Marshmallows. You’ll also need sticks or skewers to toast the marshmallows over your grill. If you’re using bamboo or other wood skewers, don’t forget to soak them in water before toasting!
So, what went into my S’mores toppings bar?
Well, for one, fruit! Fruit is the perfect combination with the gooey, sweet taste of HERSHEY’S Milk Chocolate and JET-PUFFED Marshmallows. I also had some dipping sauces (caramel and peanut butter).
