The Crazy Things I Do For My Kids
This post is in partnership with Warner Bros. Pictures
When I saw the trailer for the upcoming film, The House, starring Amy Poehler and Will Ferrell, in theaters June 30th, and the extreme lengths they go to in order to get their daughter’s college fund back, it immediately made me think of the time I went overboard to help my oldest son, Christian, ask his girlfriend to the prom.
It all started when Christian asked me to help him come up with an awesome, creative idea to ask his girlfriend to his first prom. We sat down one weekend, brainstormed a bunch of pretty tame ideas, and then landed on one that, as a mom, got me really excited to go way overboard: a scavenger hunt.
We spent the following week making an intricate map and checkpoints with clues to lead her to the next one. My absolute favorite part was the final stop in our laundry room. We decided to have giant, gold foil balloons that spelled out “PROM” waiting for her to pop the question.
Loading myself and all of those oversized balloons into my car was worth every bit of being squished during the ride home to make that moment as awesome as it was.
As a mom, whether silly or serious, I’m totally willing to do what it takes to make sure my kids can live out their dreams and goals. It’s one of the biggest honors I have as a parent.
See The House, in theaters everywhere June 30th. The film also stars Nick Kroll, Allison Tolman, Michaela, Ryan Simpkins, Jessie Ennis, Rob Huebel, Cedric Yarbrough, and Oscar nominee Jeremy Renner. Go ALL IN and follow The House on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter for all of the latest updates!
