Glazed Turkey Bacon Recipe
Delicious turkey bacon glazed with maple syrup and yellow mustard that makes breakfast time extra special!
A few days ago, I shared with you my interview with Iron Man 3 star Gwyneth Paltrow and mentioned that I would be circling back with more information on her new cookbook “It’s All Good”. The time has come!
I was fortunate enough to receive a signed copy of “It’s All Good”, which includes easy and delicious recipes “that will make you look good and feel great.” Below is part of our interview with Gwyneth on her new cookbook.

How did you get into doing cookbooks?
“I started writing down my recipes because I was always a cook and a foodie. So I started writing them all down, and then when my dad died, I don’t know, I just thought it would be – because he was the one taught me cook, I thought it would be really nice because I sort of felt him in the kitchen, and I sort of felt it would be nice to write the recipes, and you know, kind of pay homage to him and our relationship at the same time, and it was cathartic.”
Can you talk about issues that led you to the doctor?
“Yes. I was just like steadily wearing myself down and I think there was some emotional stuff, too, and I just had this weird episode where, I talk about it in the book, I was making lunch and the right side of my body went numb and it was so terrifying, I thought I was having a stroke.
Then because I thought I was having a stroke, I started having an anxiety attack on top of what was this migraine that was making my whole right side numb and I really freaked out. I went to bed, took a nap and I remember hearing my kids playing in the garden and I can’t believe I’m here. Like, I can’t go down and play with them; what is happening. So I went to the doctor got tested for everything.
I had run myself into the ground; I had really, really high stress hormones- they were killing my adrenals. I had really low vitamin D, vitamin B; my estrogen was messed up, everything was just off, and they said I had a cyst on my parathyroid, I had a cyst on my ovary- like, they found a million things wrong. And my doctor said, I want you to eat an elimination diet. Just eat super clean, just like how your ancestors would’ve eaten like chicken, fig, vegetables.
No coffee, no alcohol, no sugar and in three weeks, my blood work had changed so much and my parathyroid nodule went away over time which is amazing. I did have to get my cyst out with surgery, but other than that, I fixed everything with the food. Food really is medicine. It’s amazing.”
Do your kids cook with you a lot?
Oh yes. My son, especially, is really, really into it, and he can perfectly crack an egg. He has since he was four- no shells in the bowl. He’s so proud of himself and I actually think that the kitchen is an amazing place to interact and teach kids. We do math in the kitchen, like two thirds of a cup? It’s such quality time of interacting but, you’re also making dinner.”
I decided to give “It’s All Good” a test in my own kitchen, using Gwyneth’s “Momo’s Special Turkey Bacon” recipe because my kids love turkey bacon. I tweaked the recipe a tiny bit, which I noted in the recipe instructions below.
Glazed Turkey Bacon
Ingredients
- 12 oz package of pre-cooked turkey bacon
- 2 tablespoons yellow mustard
- 2 tablespoons maple syrup
Instructions
- Preheat broiler.
- Lay bacon on foil-lined cookie sheet. Whisk together mustard and syrup, brush half of it on the bacon, coating each piece.
- Broil for 2-3 minutes (Gwyneth's recipe calls for 1 minute, but my turkey bacon wasn't crisping up after 1 minute, so I went a bit longer), then turn over the other side of each slide and coat with remaining mustard and syrup mixture.
- Broil the other side for 2-3 minutes, or until crispy. (Gwyneth's recipe lists 1-2 minutes, but again, my turkey bacon needed more time)
- Once done, serve immediately.
Though my turkey bacon looks a bit different than in the cookbook (I think it was the cut of the bacon, Gwyneth’s bacon may have not been prepackaged like mine), it tasted delicious! My boys and husband loved the flavor and I will definitely be making this easy recipe again.
