How to Make Modern Mod Podge Wall Art

It really is a simple project! The whole process took less time than it did to pick out the paper! I completed the project during Jaxon’s nap time!

Here’s what you need for the project::
- 12 x 12 canvases
- Acrylic Pant
- Foam Brushes
- Scrapbook Paper
- Mod Podge
(glossy)
- Paper Trimmers
or Scissors
- Hairdryer
*First, I like to start with:

I always cover my space with:

*Next, I set out my canvas and painted two coats of paint on the edges:

*Then I:

*Once the paper is trimmed You’re ready to go! Put a layer of mod podge on the canvas and a layer on the backside of the paper. You will have to work quickly because it dries pretty fast. Make sure you have it lined up along the edges. You may have to do a little extra trimming:

*Next you will:

*Once the paper is not sticky you may have to smooth it out with your fingers and a hairdryer…be careful, it gets really hot!
*And Alas::

I plan to make some more fun prints for our playroom/office!
Happy Crafting!

That’s a very cool idea. I suppose you are using scrapbook paper? I really got into making collages a few years back. I remember Modge Podge. Good stuff!
I love Mod Podge.
I need to do this!
I’ve been floating ideas around in my head for ages about something like this. I think I;m inspired enough to actually do it!!
um….starting out with a “nice clean workspace” stopped me in my tracks. I don’t have one of those! It would make me clean first! 😉
Those are very nice though!
This is awesome! I have been looking for artwork exactly like this, but what I have found is pricey! I can make my own!
great idea! i also was mod podge clueless!

Those are really pretty. Wallpaper would work well for those, too. You can get the sample books for free at Lowes after they expire.

Modge Podge rocks. It’s less expensive than gel medium but gives the same results. You can add acrylic paint to tint or tone it as well. I prefer to use the matte version over regular.
Great project.
Another affordable art project I’m about to work on involves modge podge and prints made from the rasterbator, where you can load an image or photo and it rasterizes it. It then creates a pdf file with the tiled pages in on document. It’s a great way to make really large art for cheap.
LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT! THIS IS SUCH A GREAT USE OF THE PAPER THAT IS JUST ITCHING TO BE USED IN MY CRAFT ROOM! THANKS FOR THE GREAT IDEA! WILL YOU POST PICS WHEN THE SQUARES ARE UP? CAN’T WAIT TO SEE THE FINISHED PRODUCT!
Lori-Yes I will! I will probably do this after Christmas since it’s so crazy right now! I’d like to see your pics as well!
I haven’t done this in a long time, my daughter loves to modpodge will have to get supplies and go for it.

Is the paper cut to fit the canvas or does it overlap?
Lauren- I measured the paper for the canvas I put it on. There were both 12″ x 12″, but the canvases are not perfectly straight on each side. I put the canvas on the back side of the paper, then drew lines with a pencil. I trimmed with a paper cutter.
I did this for my dining room and it turned out awesome. See it at https://momspark.net/finally-my-mod-podge-art/
What a great idea! I have a wall that is desperately in need of some art! This would be a great way to fill that space!
You can do this too with photographs. I did it as Christmas presents one year. I love they way they look on the wall.
@Kellyology, Didn’t think about doing this with photos, what a fabulous idea! Did you do it on a canvas?
Great idea! They turned out so well. 🙂
I LOVE Mod Podge too!! I have a tip I would love to share!! Take your favorite print and have it mounted to foam core. Then take a huge crumpled up piece of heavy white paper, dip it into Mod Podge and gently press it onto the print, almost as though you are “sponging” a wall. Basically, you want it to look textured. Do this to the entire print. (You can use a paint brush too, if you wish, but the paper gives it a nicer effect.) I’ve done this many times and I swear, people think it’s a real oil painting! If you REALLY want to get creative, once it dries use real paint on top of the dried Mod Podge to add accents and give it depth. Frame the print to give it a true oil painting feel. (I love big, ornate frames.)
I totally forgot about Mod Podge! As a tween, I used it on everthing in sight! Thanks for the great info!!
Very nice! A frugal way to spice up a room!! 🙂
@HilLesha, Yes! It was a fun project, too!
Love this ideas and that you can practically use whatever patterns you want to create those unique looks. Nice job!
Maybe next time I should search for directions online FIRST before I try to wing it on my own! I stuck (dry) scrapbook paper onto the mod podged canvas and it started bubbling and wrinkling somethin’ fierce. Was my mistake not mod podging the backside of the paper too?
Hmmmm, yeah, either that are there was too much spread on. I also think it helps using a very thick scrapbook paper verses a thin one. The paper I used was as thick as card stock paper.
I love using Mod Podge for craft projects! It’s so easy to use and works great for decoupage. What kind of finish did you try? I usually go for the matte one on my picture frames.
I’ve been thinking about trying Mod Podge for some craft projects. Your title got my attention! I’d love to hear what you made with it and how it turned out.
