DIY: 5 Minute Sandbox Project

Spring is officially on the calendar, but most days it still feels like the WINTER THAT WILL NEVER END. From the looks of my Facebook stream, I’m not the only one who feels that way, either.

Since the weather has been so wonky this year, my family has been really cherishing any hint of sunlight and warm weather days. It doesn’t matter what is on the agenda – if it’s warm, we’re headed outside.

In fact, we just had a BEAUTIFUL weekend. Simply beautiful. We had friends over to play ball and blow bubbles in the backyard. It was exactly how spring should feel.

We also set aside some time to work on a fun and EASY sandbox project that literally took us five minutes to create. Five minutes is my kind of DIY!

This sandbox is simple, but my kids have already gotten a TON of use out of it. Here is how we made it…

I bought a shallow plastic organizing bin to use as my sandbox. Not only was this an inexpensive option, but there was no building involved and since the bin has wheels, it’s easily portable. It also comes with a lid to cover up when the sandbox isn’t in use.

I bought a 50-pound bag of play sand from my local hardware store to fill the bin. My teenager was in charge of scooping the sand into the bin.

My little guy supervised the process. And stuck his finger into the sand stream. For quality control, obviously.

Once the sand was emptied into the bin, my teen leveled it out with his hands.

And that is all it took. Seriously. Done. My youngest son was able to begin playing right away.

He even “decorated” the sandbox with every sand toy he owns. He was pretty proud of his creation.

Since the project was so darn easy, we decided to add a little fun to the lid with paint.

And….here it is, folks! Easiest project ever, and my kids now have hours of playtime in their future. DIY project WIN for mom!
