DIY Glitter Clothespin Snowflakes Craft
Since I’m renting I have economical paper blinds in all rooms that didn’t come with blinds in the first place. Except for in the bedroom. I got a $100+ Roman shade for $7 because something went wrong with a special order and the store just needed to get rid of it. Poor Rob was at home trying to enjoy his day off and I had him digging around for the tape measure to see if this steal of a deal would fit in the window.
Now paper shades come with these plastic clips but the longer the sun hits them the more brittle they become. And a-hole cats love them so they get walked off with on the regular.
In order to be able to raise my blinds on demand, I have started using clothespins. The cats still steal them and then the dog tries to eat them. I’m surprised at their tag-team effort but they’re working together very well in this instance.
Glitter Clothespin Snowflakes
Because I always figure I need some I have a tendency to buy big packages of clothespins a lot. So when I started to organize and clean up my office I noticed that I had, like, 7 unopened packages. Wowzers. That’s a lot of pins! Instead of having them sitting in a drawer, I thought I would put a few of my surplus to good use as clothespin snowflake ornaments. The end result is stunning and, I betcha, some wouldn’t even guess what was hiding underneath all of that glitter if they didn’t already know.
Supplies Needed for Glitter Clothespin Snowflakes
- Clothespins (8 per snowflake)
- Fine glitter
- Spray adhesive
- Hot glue gun
- String
How to Make Glitter Clothespin Snowflakes
For each snowflake remove the metal piece from 8 clothespins.
Glue each set together as you see here.
Glue the fat ends together to form an “X”.
Next glue the fat end of a pin set into each corner of the “X”.
This is the snowflake shape you will get.
Now I initially forgot about a hanger. To keep things nice and tidy looking you can glue your string inside of one of your pin sets for each ornament.
Now your ornament is easily hung.
To glitter your snowflakes you’ll first need to protect the string. A short piece of masking tape is all you need to keep it nice and neat.
Spray the ornament with spray adhesive and allow it to become tacky. I’d highly recommend using the good stuff, Aleene’s Tacky Spray. I used something given to me and it wasn’t as good and I have some bare spots to cover up as well as some clumped up spots that I’m not terribly happy with.
Sprinkle with glitter and respray any missed areas and apply glitter as needed.
And say hi to the only cat who doesn’t steal my clothespins 🙂
With a healthy coverage of glitter, the fact that these are clothespins isn’t immediately visible. How nifty is that?
Glittered in your choice of colors, these will match any Christmas tree around!

Hi! I love this idea. Does it have to be fine glitter? Only because I have tons of regular glitter but I do want it to look nice. Just wondering if it’s a major difference?
You could certainly try a less-fine glitter to test it out!
Great idea…will be making in our craft group soon and making for neighbours.
Fabulous! Let me know how it goes. 🙂
My kids, ages 4, 5, 6, 11 & 12, had a blast, making these! We loved them, so much, we will be making them every year, to kick off, the Christmas season!
Yay! So glad your family was able to enjoy this fun project. Happy Holidays!
P.S. The easiest and least messy way, for us, was the spray glue, and the NOT SO fine glitter 🙂
