DIY Baby’s First Halloween Costume: Head Band
This is the second post of our DIY Baby’s First Halloween Costume series. Follow the link below for the previous in the series:
This DIY is very adaptable. It is a jumping-off point.
I will give you the basic “how-to”, you take it from there and make it your own.
HEADBAND
what you need:
- fabric (44 -46 inches wide)
- elastic (I used 3/4 inch)
- sewing machine
- thread
- safety pin
1st: Cut a strip of fabric double the width of your elastic plus a 1/2 inch for seam allowance
ex: my elastic was 3/4 inch. 3/4 in doubled is 1 1/2 inches. Then I added 1/2 inch equaling 2 inches total.
2nd: Fold strip in half right sides facing in
3rd: Sew along raw edge using a 1/4 inch seam allowance
4th: Turn right side out using a safety pin
5th: Use a safety pin to feed elastic through a fabric casing
6th: measure to fit
7th: Trim excess elastic and fabric and zig-zag stitch elastic together
*zig-zag stitch is important because it allows for a slight stretch
8th: overlap fabric ends, tuck raw edges in and sew with zig-zag stitch
and you are finished! You made a headband.
I chose to take this headband a step further by using the leftover tulle in our next DIY: Baby’s First Halloween Costume Tutu! Check back tomorrow!
