I Held Captain America’s Shield. (and behind the scenes photos)

A few months ago, I shared something special with you – meeting Chris Evans AND visiting the CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLIDER set. We also took a picture together. (I’ll be sharing that at a later time, stay tuned!)
During my visit to the set, I also had the opportunity to learn all about Captain America’s shield. In fact, I was able to hold the shield while taking this amazing photo.
What do you think?
To learn more about this special prop, we sat with Property Master Russell Bobbitt for an interview. Below is a portion of our conversation.
How do you come up with the design?
Obviously, this is “Captain America 2” so I’m the first one to establish the look. In our movie, we have four different looks because he goes into different scenarios and different missions.
In this movie, we have a couple of surprises with the shield. And it’ll appear that there are different shields. I had to make 50 of them to accommodate all – hard rubber, soft rubber, fiberglass, metal.
When we photograph them from behind, it looks shiny and new like metal. When he takes it off and starts fighting with it, obviously we can’t hit each other with metal shields or the boys won’t be able to play very long. So, I make soft ones to accommodate.
