Buttermilk Biscuits and Sausage Gravy Recipe
This classic biscuits and gravy recipe is the classic dish of fluffy buttermilk biscuits topped with a creamy breakfast sausage gravy.

When we talk about holiday meals, many people focus on dinners, hams, turkeys, and roasts. Sure, that’s all great. But for me, nothing says “holiday” like having the time to make and enjoy a great holiday breakfast. Toast and cereal are great for an ordinary day when you have to get moving, but with all the time we have at home during the holidays (especially this holiday season), I like to do something a little special, biscuits and gravy. Biscuits and gravy say “comfort” to me.

The Biscuit Mix I Like Best
Pioneer’s Biscuit Gravy Mix and their Buttermilk Baking Mix mean that my family and I can enjoy the luxury of a hearty biscuits and gravy breakfast, without spending that much time making it.

I used to find making gravy a little stressful because it was always too watery or lumpy. But, I got these tips from Brian Mannett, Pioneer’s Head Research and Development Chef:
Instructions for Making the Perfect Gravy, Every Time.
- Bring to a boil. For a nice, thick gravy, make certain your water is at a full, rolling boil when preparing our gravy mixes to ensure that the starches are activated.
- Mix first before adding: When adding gravy mix to boiling water, consider first mixing it with a minimal amount of water to ensure a smooth transfer. Adding the dry mix directly to boiling water can create lumps.

Mix a Little Water First
Mixing some of the mixes with a little water first was a game-changer for me. In fact, I do this method now with many instant drinks like hot chocolate as well. It really does make things smoother.
