Spider Pom Pom Garland
I am getting more and more into holiday decorating the older I get, but I’m also getting cheaper and cheaper. I hate the idea of spending tons of money on decorations that can only be used a few weeks out of the year. Believe it or not, I don’t want spiders and ghosts hanging around my house full time!
So I’ve been trying to make things here and there that are cute and simple and preferably use thing I already have in my crafty stash. Well, I actually had to buy everything here but that’s just because I can’t figure out which box I packed my yarn yet!
With something as simple as a skein of black yarn and a package of pipe cleaners, you can make this super cute yarn pom pom spider garland!
For this tutorial you will need:
- Black yarn
- Black pipe cleaners
- White yarn (optional)
- Hot glue gun (optional)
- Scissors
Grab your yarn and pull some slack out from the center of the skein.
Wrap around three of your fingers on one hand about 80 times.
Carefully remove the yarn. You want it to hold the same looped shape.
Take a piece of yarn that is about 4-6 inches and tie it down the center of your looped mass.
If you do it correctly it will look like a bow!
Snip the loops on either side of your tie.
Here’s one side snipped and one still to go.
Now technically you have a pom pom but it’s kind of a mess. Roll around in between your hands to kind of fluff the yarn out.
Use scissors to trim the shape into a nice sphere pom pom.
Pom poms can be kind of a pain in the rear. Luckily if this is your first foray these don’t have to be perfect to still be cute!
Grab 4 black pipe cleaners.
Fold in half.
Take 2-3 pipe cleaners and cut in half. You’ll use those cut pieces here in a second.
Using your cut pieces bind your four pipe cleaners together at the bend you made for the center. On a side note these are not the right pipe cleaners. I got mixed up so mine are way short ๐
Wrap the two pieces that you used to bind the legs together around the pom pom. Twist it shut and trim excess or shove it into the pom pom.
Bend the legs for “knees” and spread around to look spider-like.
Take a piece of white yarn (or any yarn, really) and tie off to the pipe cleaner you used to bind your legs to your pom poms.
Hang as you will. I made a string that runs along side a window and tied 5 spiders onto it at different heights.
Move their legs around and fluff the yarn if needed.
