So I got it in my head that I would LOVE a pair of hot pink high tops. But when I saw the price on some chucks I was all “oh, heck, no”. And it’s a good thing because, as it just so happens to turn out, I apparently hate shoes touching my ankles as high tops do.

Before I even knew that I grabbed a pair of $10 sneakers I just so happened to spy at the Family Dollar store. It seemed too perfect to pass these babies up and so I bought them and went on my way.

Before I even put them on my feet I had decided they were too boring.

So I grabbed my fabric markers to give them a quick and easy makeover. I’ll show you how…

For this project you will need:

First, you’ll need to draw stripes along the sides of the shoe. It doesn’t matter if they are perfectly uniform, in fact, they tend to look much better if it’s a bit rag tag.

Go along your first column and draw angled lines. In the next column draw lines angled opposite of the ones you just drew but make the lines meet up with their neighbor next door.

Once the entire area is filled you can quit working and call it a day. These sneakers are pretty rad.

Or you can toss in even more color by randomly filling in the bits with the colors you choose. I went with orange, red and teal, which turned purple because it’s on pink.

Boom! Aren’t they pretty? This is one of those projects that is fun and feels really artistic even if it is a bit simple.

And boom. This is when I realized that I hate high tops. Oh, well… my sister will LOVE them! 🙂
