DIY Patterned Napkin Dyed Easter Eggs
This year I decided I wanted to try and make some Bohemian-style Easter eggs. The only problem was I couldn’t really figure out just how to do that with dye or paint. And after tons and tons of thinking it finally hit me… napkins!
So I headed online to find a few patterns within the same color scheme that seemed to follow the boho style. The three I found were all, with one set from a totally different brand but they all worked so well together that I snapped them up and hoped that the colors on my computer screen were at least somewhat accurate!
I snapped them up and busted out the decoupage and some faux, plastic eggs because who wants to do all of this work on something that is going to be trashed? That and I hate wasting food and gluing something onto your hard-boiled isn’t exactly food safe.
For this project you will need:
Here are the eggs I used. You can snag these at Walmart for just under 2 bucks a dozen. Since they are plastic, they will last forever and ever! Or until you manage to dent one, because they do a dent in pretty well if you drop something heavy on them or if the dog runs off with it.
Here are my napkins. And my cat. All are adorable. Make sure your adorable napkins are PAPER!
Napkins are 2-ply. We only need the top part with the printing, not the white business at the back. If you make a nice, clean-cut with scissors you can easily push your finger in between the two sheets and peel them apart.
Tear your printed sheet into random shapes with no straight edges.
Brush a very, very tiny amount of Mod Podge onto your first plastic egg and lightly tap the paper into place. Use your brush to smooth out.
If you go in hot and heavy with the Mod Podge your paper is going to get soggy and try to fall apart on you. It is truly a mess. Plus they will take forever to dry.
In order to cover the entire egg, after adhering to several pieces you need to allow the egg to dry. Rotating through all of your eggs works well because when you’ve put your first pieces on your last egg, the first is dry and ready to continue.
Keep working in this way until all are covered and dry!
The finished result is a randomly patterned and totally fun Easter egg! You can emphasize the parts of the napkin that are your favorite or just go nuts and use whatever wherever. For this particular egg above I wanted it to look sort of crazy boho quilt-like and I just patched it together until the whole thing was covered!
Since all of my napkins match fairly well the end result is very pretty!
Set in a matching basket with matching grass and these guys are a stunning set!
